Things to Know Before Puppy Adoption in Sydney

We understand that you are an animal lover who wants to take a compassionate decision to adopt a furry BFF. You must have spent a lot of time trying to convince your family that you are ready to take on the role of a dog guardian. However, before you opt for puppy adoption in Sydney, you must know certain things. Here is a checklist of things to know about puppy adoption.

Puppy adoption in Sydney

1. Get a dog from a shelter

Even if there are numerous beautiful dogs waiting in a shop, it is always better to opt for the shelters. Why? The more you buy a dog from the shelter, the more greyhounds are put down in the shelter. In addition, pet stores have caused countless dogs to suffer. Therefore, adopt a greyhound from a shelter instead of a pet shop.

2. Make sure that your family budget can handle it

Dogs need a lot of care, which can add up to a big buck. When you are responsible for a dog, you need to spend more money on regular and emergency vet visits, bedding, a collar and harness, high-quality food, toys, treats and grooming.

3. Getting dog tags and microchipping is a must

When you choose puppy adoption in Sydney, you must be prepared with the dog tags and, if possible, microchipping. Accidents can happen, and you don't know whether your dog will be able to find their way back home. Therefore, you must get a dog tag and a microchip (a simple process that the vet will do) to ensure that you stay updated about your dog's whereabouts.

4. Dental health is crucial for dogs

Dogs need their teeth brushed just like humans. Dental health is essential for overall health. Therefore, remember to brush the furry BFF's chompers multiple times a week. You must introduce the toothbrush slowly and gradually, with numerous positive reinforcements. You can create a fun routine by rewarding the puppy after every brushing.

5. Prevent Fleas, Ticks & Worms

This is essential from the late spring to the fall when the little critters are common. Make sure to keep the ticks and fleas off your dog. Also, don't forget about the heartworms. Where there are mosquitoes, you will find heartworm, and heartworm disease can kill a dog. Therefore, make sure to prevent fleas, ticks, and worms from your dog.
